Now that is just awlful, a damn shame.
I do like how the owners made the sign and put it out for everyone to see. Sure beats just cleaning up the mess and trying to forget about it. As mentioned above the spelling error does kinda suck.

Difficult to be sure, but I think this might be a young (immature) red shouldered hawk, NED. It could be a red-tail - when they're young, the tail does appear pale, compared to an adult red-tail. It certainly seems to be a buteo, as the tail's a bit short, for any of the accipiters (like a sharp-shin, or cooper's). It's a great photo!

Love these close up photos, NED! Immature bald eagles are dark-headed - and whilst their beak is light, when they're quite young, by the time their heads are going white, their beak is going yellow. This hawk is an osprey - wonderful birds, and often seen here on the upper Eastern Shore - occasionally in a confrontation with their considerably larger cousins, the bald eagles. Three years back, such a 'territorial' dispute was waged, over the pond that existed here at the Elk River Ranch. What was surprising to me, the eagle seemed to yield, to the osprey. The crows acted as 'moral support', providing a sort of 'Greek Chorus' in the osprey's defense. It was quite a show - although it didn't last long enough for me to even attempt to get a photo or two.

Fantastic photo, NEDavid - but I believe it's an osprey. I'm about to upload a few photos to Flora and Fauna, and add an essay - I'll add a link to your photo, but I'll wait for you to decide if you want to adjust your captions, under the photos. Take an online look, via google, for photos of both species. Judge, bald eagles do indeed go from dark heads, to light - but they don't show the eye-line of the osprey - and their beaks are yellow, not black, when they're old enough for a white head. Often, immature bald eagles are mistaken for golden eagles, because both are so dark, overall, when they're young. The golden is a bit bigger - but without some easy reference, it's not the easiest way to tell which is which.

Hmm.. I don't know if that is a Bald Eagle. I don't think that they change from dark to light like that. I have a couple of these around my place and have yet to make a sure ID of them.
Guess we have to find out huh?
